Prayer works on everything, even on things that are psychological. This prayer to stop obsessing over someone might just be that final touch, to make you stop loving someone or thinking about someone. 

Letting go of someone you really loved is not easy, and sometimes those thoughts can turn into an obsession.

God wants us to be obsessed with him and not with a mere human being, that is why Mark 12:30 says ^“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

It is important to ensure that your heart is clear from obsession because everything you do or become, flows from your thoughts.

Prayer to stop obsessing over someone

Heavenly Father, I come before your throne

I have been obsessing over ___(person’s name) 

It’s been difficult to let go

I have been struggling to get him/her out of my mind

But I am tired of feeling this way and I want it to stop

I am choosing to forget about him/her and straining toward what is ahead as Paul says in Philippians 3:13

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me just as your word says in Psalm 51:10

I take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)

From now on, may it be you Lord that I love with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind, and with all my strength.

Can God help you get over someone?

There is nothing that God cannot do when you ask him, especially if it is life-giving. That is why the bible says in Philippians 4:6-7

 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So this means that if you ask God to help you get over someone, he will give you His peace, and he will guard your heart and mind. This simply means that God will restrict those emotions and you will no longer obsess over him or her.

How do you pray for someone you want to be with?

Heavenly Father, I come before your throne

I really love ___(person’s name) and want to be with him/her

And your word in John 14:14 says, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it”

If it pleases you, may you bring us together, and may a relationship be formed

How do you know when God is trying to remove someone from your life?

1. The relationship does not work out, no matter how much effort you put into it or how much you pray for it.
2. You have asked God to reveal the true colours or intentions of the person and you discovered things they do behind your back
3. They are married to someone else
4. You keep on breaking up
5. Since they came into your life, you know no peace or joy

Signs God wants you to stop thinking about someone

1. When you think about them you become anxious

If you become anxious when you think about that person, it is a sign God wants you to stop thinking about them because the bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

2. You have sexual desires

Signs God wants you to stop thinking of someone is when you have a burning sexual desire for them. For the Bible in Colossians 3:5 says: 

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.

3. It’s hard for you to focus on the future

If you are still holding on to the past, and it is difficult for you to let go and move on, it is a sign God wants you to stop thinking of someone. The bible in the book of Philippians 3:13-14 says,

¹³ Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

4.     You have heart palpitations when you think of them

If you think about someone and you become angry or bitter, it is a sign you must stop thinking about them. The bible in Ephesians 4:31-32 says

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

5. You keep hearing messages about new beginnings

If you keep seeing or hearing messages about new beginnings, it is a sign God wants you to stop thinking about that someone. Just as Isaiah 43:18-19 says

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!”

And God wants you to replace those thoughts with Philippians 4:8 

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Prayer to stop loving someone

Prayer to let go of someone who hurt you

Heavenly Father

It’s really hard for me to forgive and forget, to let go of this person who really hurt me

But your word in Ephesians 4:31-32 commands us to get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger and to forgive just as Christ forgave us

I no longer want to be bitter, I want to have peace 

For your word in Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”

I no longer want to dwell on the former things, I am choosing to forget what is behind because your word in 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 

I am looking forward to the new me

Prayer for moving on and letting go

Lord, you know very well how much I loved this person, it has not been easy to let him/ her go 

But as your word commands in Isaiah 43:18-19, I am forgetting the former things, I no longer want to dwell on the past, I want to see the new things that you are doing this season

And because I am in Christ, the old is gone and the new is here (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I am moving on and letting go

In the name of Jesus, Amen

Prayer for someone who doesn’t love you back

Lord, you know how much I love (person’s name), I have been showing him/her love, yet the love has not been reciprocated

And your word in Luke 6:38 says give and it shall be given back to you. I have been giving but all I have been receiving is rejection. 

May you soften up his/her heart; for you are the God of all mankind and there is nothing too hard for you (Jeremiah 32:27)

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer to detach from someone

Heavenly Father, I have been struggling to cut ties with (person’s name)

But today I want to break the connection, I break the bond and every hold he or she has over me

I separate myself from this person 

For your word in John 8:36 says “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

I know I have been set free

In the name of Jesus, Amen

Prayer to get over someone

Heavenly Father please help me get over (person’s name)

I want to stop dwelling on the past and move forward with the new

No longer will I miss this person and no longer will they have the power to control my thoughts and emotions 

I take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)
