The Bible lists many characteristics of a praying woman and only 15 are discussed in this article.
Being a praying woman has so many benefits, but in order to reap these benefits, it is important to be of good character.
Just from Philippians 4:4-7, the bible lists a minimum of 6 characteristics of a praying woman which are: rejoicing, gentleness, not being anxious, praying in every situation, thanksgiving, and being peaceful.
Philippians 4:4-7 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Hannah, Anna, and Esther are some of the names of praying woman in the bible and there is so much we can from these women’s behavior and prayer life.
Characteristics Of A Praying Woman
1. A praying woman rejoices in the Lord at all times
Rejoicing is one of the characteristics of a praying woman. The Bible in Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice”
When you are a praying woman, you don’t have to look like your situation. God can still give you peace in the midst of a storm.
That is why Matthew 6:16 also says, “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance.”
So even if you are fasting, there is no need to look sad.
2. A praying woman is considerate and gentle
A woman who is gentle is also another characteristic of a praying woman. The Bible in Philippians 4:5 says, “Let your gentleness be evident to all.”

4. She prays with thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a characteristic of a praying woman. There are many women in the bible who made thanksgiving prayers. Hannah gave thanks before God, even Mary and Sarah. Also, David was always filled with thanksgiving.
That is why Philippians 4:6 says, “…but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”
Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”
5. She prays in the spirit
Praying in the spirit is a characteristic of a praying woman. Ephesians 6:18 says, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.”
That is why Romans 8:26 says, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
6. A praying woman is alert
Being vigilant is a characteristic of a praying woman. The Bible in Ephesians 6:18 says, “With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
So these scriptures show the importance of being always alert. When you are vigilant, you will quickly be able to spot the tricks of the enemy and resist him in prayer.
7. A praying woman prays for everyone
A praying woman is not selfish in prayer; she intercedes on behalf of other people. Ephesians 6:18 commands us to keep praying for all the Lord’s people.
And 1 Timothy 2:1 says, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people”
8. A praying woman lives a godly and holy life
Godliness and holiness are other characteristics of a praying woman. The Bible in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
9. She is not a hypocrite
Prayer is personal, it shouldn’t be done to show off. That is why Matthew 6:5-6 says, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:16-18 says, “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
10. She asks for forgiveness
A praying woman doesn’t consider herself to be perfect that is why she asks for forgiveness. That is why Matthew 6:12 says, “And forgive us our debts”
And James 5:16 says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
11. A praying woman forgives others
A praying woman forgives the people who have wronged her. That is why Matthew 6:14 says, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
12. A praying woman prays according to God’s will
An extract from the Lord’s prayer says “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).
It is important to pray according to the will of God because if the prayers are aligned with his will, God will grant your requests.
1 John 5:14 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
13. A praying woman has faith
A praying woman has faith. That is why Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
James 5:15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
Matthew 17:20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
14. A praying woman is persistent
Persistence or not giving up is a characteristic of a praying woman. The Bible in Luke 18:1-5 says, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
15. A praying woman is humble
Humility is also a characteristic of a praying woman. James 4:6 says, “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
Conclusion
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
