Bible Verse About Women Empowerment

1.    Judges 4:4-14 – Deborah was an empowered woman, a leader, warrior and judge

“Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.” Judges 4:4-5

“Villagers in Israel would not fight; they held back until I, Deborah, arose, until I arose, a mother in Israel.” Judges 5:7

Deborah is a good example of women empowerment in the bible. She was given the opportunity to lead her nation although she was female.

Both men and women trusted her judgement and her leadership. She did not face gender disparity just because she’s a woman. Deborah had the same opportunities as her male counterparts.

2. Judges 4:8-9 – God chose Israel’s victory to come through a woman

Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” Judges 4:8-9

Judges 4:8-9 is another bible verse about women empowerment. God chose Jael, a woman, as the person to bring Israel’s victory.

Jael was not on the battlefield like the rest of the men but she was able to destroy the enemy through her intelligence. This means that women can do jobs that are reserved for men, and they are able to do them smarter.

3. 2 Samuel 20:16-22 – A wise woman gave her viewpoints and suggestions without fear of prejudice

“a wise woman called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him.” He went toward her, and she asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he answered. She said, “Listen to what your servant has to say.” ….Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bikri and threw it to Joab.” 2 Samuel 20:16-22

This is a good scripture about women empowerment and leadership.

When this wise woman saw that things would get out of hand because of the approach that Joab was using to pursue his enemy; she offered a better solution.

She took the leadership role and everyone was willing to listen to her wise advice and even cooperate with her.

4. Luke 8:1-3 – Joanna who managed the king’s household

“and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.” Luke 8:2-3

Joanna, the wife of Chuza was the manager of Herod’s household. This means that the king empowered her to run his affairs although she was a woman.

5. Esther 8:1 – The king gave Esther the estate of Haman

“That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews.” Esther 8:1

So the king transferred the estate of Haman to Esther after he had passed on, meaning that there was a wealth redistribution which would result in gender balance.

6. Esther 5:3 – Esther was empowered by the king

And the king said to her, “What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you—up to half the kingdom!” Esther 5:3

The king was willing to do anything that Esther asked for, meaning he was willing to share his kingdom with her.

7. 2 Chronicles 34:19-23 The king trusted a woman’s opinion

“When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his robes. He gave these orders to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king’s attendant: “Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the remnant in Israel and Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that is poured out on us because those who have gone before us have not kept the word of the Lord; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written in this book.” Hilkiah and those the king had sent with him went to speak to the prophet Huldah, who was the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the New Quarter. She said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Tell the man who sent you to me” 2 Chronicles 34:19-23

Another example of women empowerment is this scripture, God chose Huldah for this great gift of prophecy. And now people had to enquire from her about God what saying.

8. Proverbs 31:16-26 – The virtuous woman

“She considers a field and buys it;

From her profits she plants a vineyard.

She perceives that her merchandise is good,

And her lamp does not go out by night.

She makes tapestry for herself;

Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

She makes linen garments and sells them,

And supplies sashes for the merchants.

She opens her mouth with wisdom,

And on her tongue is the law of kindness.” Proverbs 31:16-26

Proverbs 31 woman is a great bible verse about woman empowerment. This woman was afforded the opportunity to make choices, to supply and even to be in the property space.

9. Galatians 3:28-29 – We are all equal before God

10. Genesis 1:27 – God created everyone in his image

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

11. Numbers 27:1-7 – The daughters of Zelophad changed the rules when it came to distribution of the estate

This scripture is about the daughters of Zelophehad who had lost their father and were discriminated from being apportioned the land since their father had no sons. So they made a petition and the rules were changed in their favour.

The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said, “Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord, but he died for his own sin and left no sons. Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.” So Moses brought their case before the Lord, and the Lord said to him, “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.” Numbers 27:1-7

12. Judges 9:50-54 – Bible verse about gender inequality

Abimelek wanted to destroy all the people at Shechem and they all ran into the top of the tower. So as he approached the entrance of the tower a woman threw a millstone on him and he asked his armour bearer to finish him off so that the people do not say that he was defeated by a woman.

This means that Abimelek underestimated the potential of women, he thought that woman were not capable of being warriors, but this woman proved him wrong.

“Abimelek went to the tower and attacked it. But as he approached the entrance to the tower to set it on fire, a woman dropped an upper millstone on his head and cracked his skull. Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can’t say, ‘A woman killed him.’” So his servant ran him through, and he died.” Judges 9:52-54

13. Esther 4:15-17 – Queen Esther had authority, delegation skills and also led by example

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.

Esther was also a great leader. She was able to command all the Jews to fast for her, including her servants. Although she didn’t do it herself, but she was able to delegate the responsibility to communicate with the Jews to Mordecai.

And she also led by example since she was also going to join in the fast. Also, her instructions were clear.

14. Exodus 15:20-21 – Miriam was a leader, all women followed her

Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing. Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.” Exodus 15:20-21

The bible says that Miriam had a gift of prophecy and she was a musician and all the women followed her. This means that she had great leadership skills that is why she was able to win the trust of all the women. And although she was a leader, she was on the ground with the people, she played the timbrel and danced with them.

16. Judges 4:8-9 – Deborah was a female leader who also lead by example

Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”n “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah.

Another bible verse on women’s leadership is Judges 4. Deborah was a leader on Israel. So God told Deborah to tell the men to go into battle and pursue Sisera. And although the instruction was not meant for her, she decided to go with them to fight. This means that she was a leader who was hands-on; she led by example.

17. 2 Samuel 20:18-22 – A wise women who assisted Joab in the battle

She continued, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Get your answer at Abel,’ and that settled it. We are the peaceful and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the Lord’s inheritance?” “Far be it from me!” Joab replied, “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy! That is not the case. A man named Sheba son of Bikri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Hand over this one man, and I’ll withdraw from the city.” The woman said to Joab, “His head will be thrown to you from the wall.” Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bikri and threw it to Joab. 2 Samuel 20:18-22

This wise woman, was able to propose a better plan to Joab on how to conquer his enemy peaceably without destroying the city. And based on how she communicated, Joab was attentive to her and he trusted her advice.

She knew that she wouldn’t be able to deliver the head of Sheba alone; which is why she went to the people and communicated her wise advice. And the people were willing to do it because she involved them and she communicated well with them.

Conclusion

Women are such great leaders. If you are a woman in a leadership role; don’t underestimate yourself.
