Before getting married, I prayed similar prayers to God to repair a broken relationship. I even prayed for my boyfriend to come back. And in most instances, the prayers were answered, but there were also times when God did not answer because he already knew that the relationship was not right for me.

Will God restore a broken relationship?

Yes God can restore a broken relationship. The bible in John 14:13 says He will do whatever you ask for in His name. 

And 1 John 5:14-15 says:

“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

So if whatever you are asking for is aligned to his will, he will restore that broken relationship. But if God wants something else for you, he will not restore that broken relationship. He rather give you a chance to heal then bring you someone better into your life or move you into your purpose.

What does God say about a broken relationship?

God does not like broken relationships, he wants happy, healthy families. He is really against separations that is why the bible says in Matthew 19:3-6: 

They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

⁴ “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ ⁵ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? ⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.

God also does not like broken relationships because they leave us with a scar, that is why Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

The bible also says in Proverbs 18:22 that he who finds a wife finds a good thing, so you can see that God is pro relationships.

God also wants to give us rest from a broken relationship that is why his word in Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

God also wants us to strive for full restoration and to live in peace. See this verse:

2 Corinthians 13:11 – Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

Also know that when you are broken, God is closer to you that is why Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

My relationship with my girlfriend is shaky, I am believing in you Lord for restoration and a relationship that will lead to marriage 

For you said in Genesis 2:18 “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make a helper suitable for him.”

And your word also says that a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh.

It seems like the opposite is happening in my life, may you join us together O Lord

May you fill our relationship with joy and peace just as your word says in Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Restore us Lord, may we be of one mind and may we live in peace just as your word says in 2 Corinthians 13:11 “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”

You are the God of love, may love be restored in our relationship, and may you be the center of our relationship in the name of Jesus, Amen.
